With the recent Leeds-Grenville Economic Development Newsletter profile on LTRCorp. discussing our unique work structure with owners Doug and Caroline, I thought this would be a good opportunity to highlight some of the benefits I’ve experienced working remotely.

I’ll begin with a little about myself. I am a senior graphic designer who has been working with Doug and Caroline for nearly 10 years, dating back to when we were based out of a Toronto office. During this time we operated under a typical office format, of in-person, Monday-Friday, 9-5. While there was some flexibility to work from home here or there, most days were filled with lengthy commutes, cold offices and long work days.

10 years later and we are now living and working in a completely different format. When we first began shifting to digital operations, I jumped at the opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. I never imagined I would be able to live outside of a major city and still be able to do what I love, but I now live out in the country, in a tiny town on acres of property where I am able to work from home…and I love it! No commutes. No rushing. It is the perfect work-life balance.

As a new mother with a young family, it can be difficult returning to work. Balancing many new responsibilities of countless appointments, childcare, preparing meals, with all the stresses of getting yourself to and from work while fulfilling all your duties can really break a person down. Working from home, what seems impossible is not only doable, but also sustainable. If needed, I can run to an appointment, get dinner started or stay in my pyjamas all day. This type of flexibility is what we need to maintain a healthy balance.

While our team meets face-to-face when necessary, we mainly operate digitally, through email, phone or video conferencing, file sharing and continual collaboration. It is important to remain connected so no team member works in isolation. We perfected this method long before the COVID pandemic forced many to work from home. While they have been struggling to transition to a new way of operating, we have continued to provide our clients with quality and effective video production, web development and design services dedicated to marketing in compelling and measurable ways. Our strength is in our flexibility.
